Sony Corporation of America, (SCA) is seeking an experienced Senior Interaction Designer (Sr. IxD) to help drive strategy and shape e-commerce initiatives for one of the world’s top brands and premier global e-commerce sites. 

As a senior experience designer in Sony’s Global Retail Organization (GRO) the Sr. IxDwill work closely with our UX Creative Director to help define the navigation, organization, and interaction design for Sony.com. You will apply user-centered design methods to translate user needs, business objectives, and technology capabilities into world-class, emotionally sophisticated digital experiences. 

Our interaction designers must be nuanced visual communicators. It is not enough to map boxes and arrows. Rather, we are looking for those rare hybrids—strong conceptual and strategic thinkers who can draw, diagram, and explain things visually and convey sophisticated concepts using layout, color, and type. 

The ideal candidate will wow us with a portfolio of strong work, showing examples of work on enterprise-scale, e-commerce sites. He/she will demonstrate: the ability to find and tell the story around a given idea; the ability to persuasively articulate the rationale behind the work; and an understanding of multiple disciplines—visual design, motion design, pattern recognition, experience research, strategy, and systems thinking. 

Responsibilities:
 
  • Design effective, innovative, and on-strategy digital experiences
  • Conceive and lead high quality interactive work that pushes the Sony brand forward
  • Assimilate user research findings to identify actionable improvements to the user experience and other opportunities to create value
  • Monitor the integrity of the design through deployment
  • Understand (and design for) the array of technical constraints, user goals, and business requirements that shape a project
  • Collaborate with agency partners, designers, and programmers to design interaction models and user interface elements to build a robust design pattern library for use at Sony.com
  • Expertly craft documentation to represent the user experience, including: user scenarios, screen concepts, detailed wireframes, flow diagrams, sitemaps, schematics, and prototypes
  • Assist in communicating, documenting, and representing interactive design direction to business partners and the executive team
  • Assess existing sites/properties for usefulness, usability, visual design, content, and branding


Qualifications: 
 
Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a design-related discipline (i.e., human factors, graphic design, interface/interaction design, or multimedia related field)
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience designing online experiences for enterprise-scale web applications (in lieu of a design degree we require a minimum of 8 years of experience)
  • Agency experience preferred

Design:

  • Must have a design portfolio that demonstrates experience working on global enterprise-scale sites, with significant amounts of content and interactive complexity, solid design ideas, and thorough understanding of good design process 
  • Proficiency with the latest Adobe Creative Suite software with the ability to prototype design ideas and interaction models 
  • Excellent layout and composition skills with proper usage of white space, contrast, consistency, and gestalt principles Excellent conceptual and problem-solving skills
  • Must be passionate about user-centered design
  • Prior experience in designing experiences across desktop, mobile, and tablet devices is strongly desired 
  • Experience in designing rich social experiences is strongly desired

Communication and Collaboration:

  • Ability to collaborate with agency partners, creative directors, designers, and developers to envision and iterate concepts  
  • Good at presenting a strong point-of-view from the user’s perspective and selling creative ideas to influence decisions with business team and executive management
  • Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills with the ability to articulate complex concepts persuasively to guide and facilitate discussions and decisions
  • Be nice, play well with a variety of stakeholders from Sony divisions and offices around the globe

  • Cool under pressure: keeps a level head, solves problems, and engenders confidence
  • Must have strong organizational skills and an attention to detail
  • Coding ability not required, but a deep understanding of the capabilities of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and popular JS Frameworks is required
  • Ability to be flexible and precise under tight deadlines and with changing requirements and feedback
